Lasting Impact
The Rouletta Blowers Gasparian Children’s Program is an integral part of our mission to encourage lifelong learning. The early literacy and children’s library is funded by donation and the continued generosity of Carl and Suzanne Blowers.
The Rouletta Blowers Gasparian Children’s Program supports infants through school-aged children. Rouletta Ann Blowers Gasparian (1933-2009) was born in Munnsville, NY to Clive and Ruth Huer Blowers. The family moved to Horseheads, NY where Rouletta graduated from Horseheads Central School in 1950. She then attended Geneseo Teachers College studying library science and went on to earn a master’s degree in Education from C.W. Post University in Long Island. Following graduate school, Rouletta served as media and library director for many years at the Wantagh Library on Long Island.
Rouletta was co-author of The Let’s Write to Read Story, which was a method guide for teaching reading by encouraging young students to write stories. She had a passion for helping young readers develop their skills and their confidence. Mrs. Gasparian worked closely with her co-author, Doris Kautzman, as well as classroom teachers, parents, and a school-full of young readers to bring to life this reading and writing program called the “Wantagh Publishing Company”. It is this passion learning and enterprising spirit we hope to instill in the participants of our early literacy programs.
